.Do not try too hard. Plan well in advance.Try to compromise if problems arise during preparations.
.Do not try to please everyone. That will bring too much pressure and you probably won't achieve it. Arguments and disputes will happen. The way you behave will have an influence on the outcome however, so keep that in mind.
.Concede a point occasionally. Keep in mind that everyone is under some kind of pressure over Christmas and they are likely to feel differently as a result. For every action there is a reaction, so if you are inclined to be resistant or moody, do not be surprised when the atmosphere goes sour. It may happen despite you of course, but you can reduce the odds by leaving yourself out of the equation.
.Keep things in perspective. On the subject of gifts, do not spend more than you can afford as it will only make you feel worse afterwards. Christmas can be an emotional time for everybody but do not expect things to change for the better because of this. Christmas, as at any other time of year, is actually what we choose to make it.
.Stay in control. By this I do not mean take charge, just get involved with the events so that you have a say; be aware of planned events and add in some ideas of your own.
.Negotiate. What do you hate most about Christmas? Whatever it is, reduce the stress by discussing what you are prepared to do. So long as you do not try opting out of Christmas entirely you will probably achieve a satisfactory outcome!
.Some people neglect themselves. Some people think of the others too much. If you are inclined to be too 'giving' then allow some time for yourself. If you have been continually helping out nobody will begrudge you some personal time for an activity you enjoy.
.Avoid buying last-minute presents if possible. You know presents are part of the event, so avoid a late rush to the stores. Using the internet for online shopping is really good to avoid the mad rush in the shops.
.Relating to tip 8, give as you would like to receive. This does not just refer to presents but while we're on the subject, avoid giving household items (irons, waste bins, etc.) as personal presents.
.Relax & enjoy the fun! Christmas is a very busy time so try to accept it. Prepare well and do not let the odd set-back throw you off balance. The moment will come when you can put your feet up and relax.
