Giving the Right Way Eco Friendly Gifts

Imagine how it would do your heart good when not only do you experience the joy of giving but also of helping the environment. Eco friendly gifts are gifts that focus on the environment and fairly traded products.

People are always looking for that perfect gift to give someone; birthdays, weddings and births just to mention a few. Most of the focus is put on either how expensive the gift is or for the great deal we got on it. For children we want to buy the hottest new toys and teens need all the top electronic devices. Rarely do the questions where was this product made, who made it or how was it produced cross our minds when we are shopping.

This is where the importance of Eco friendly gifts comes into play. In this day and age where we are fighting to save our planet, the where, who and how needs to become a priority when buying products. Shopping needs to be more focused on the actual services and less on the product itself. Not buying the cheapest gift but one that contributes to the health of our environment and that has contributed to the increase in fair trade products.

So now you might ask exactly what are Eco friendly gifts and how do I purchase them? There are a wide variety of gifts available that falls under this category: purses, bags, clothing, hemp products, novelties, lamps, gift baskets and soaps. The list is too long to name them all, these are but a few examples. Many products are made from recycled materials or made with no harm to the environment. Gifts can be purchased in various stores around the world and online. Another factor that needs to be addressed is fair trade products.

Fair Trade means that the producers of the product are given a fair wage. The buyer and the producer who usually are from underprivileged countries sit down to discuss a fair wage, this fair wage is more about helping the producer instead of the buyer making a huge profit. The goal of Fair Trade is to help poor countries go from poverty and slave labor where they are working in unhealthy environments to being independent to care for themselves.

These products are then exported all over the world. Buyers can be assured that the producer was given a fair wage for the products they are purchasing. Products that can be purchased under Fair Trade are coffee, chocolate, sugar, jewelry and baskets just to name a few. There are many specialty shops that sell Fair Trade products that can be found all over the world and the number of shops are growing all the time and of course online. Purchasing Eco friendly gifts and Fair Trade gifts can make a real difference in our environment and in our earth. Now doesn’t that make the perfect gift?

6 Secrets to Saving Time and Money With This Years Christmas Gift Shopping

You know the story – bustling crowds, empty shelves, and high prices. Christmas gift shopping isn’t what it used to be. Just a few years ago, scrambling through the malls shopping for last minute Christmas gifts was exciting and fun. All the holiday decorations, bright Christmas lights, and festive carols enhanced the thrill of the holiday season.

Nowadays, tracking down that hottest-selling toy that little Johnny wants for Christmas, can be more like navigating your way through the “Perfect” storm. Long lines, irritable sales people, sold-out items, and high prices can sap the Christmas spirit out of the most professional of shoppers.

Well, all is not lost! There are a few secrets that can help you find your way through the Christmas gift shopping “seas” and into a calm, restful holiday port. Try these 6 Secrets to Holiday Gift Shopping this year and see the difference.

Try shopping the night before the big sale

Ready for the big Christmas sale on Friday? The secret is to shop the store the night before the sale starts, Thursday night in this case. Many retailers update their systems for the special sale discounts after 6:00 PM the day before the announced sale date. This allows you to take advantage of the lower sales price without fighting the crowds the next morning. Unfortunately, not all large retailers follow this practice, but it may be worth a special trip down to your favorite retailer to test it out.

Start your Christmas shopping early

This may not be a real shopping secret, but smart Christmas gift shoppers will tell you that this is the key to avoiding a stressful holiday shopping experience. Try shopping for the season’s “hot” new toys and electronics in September and October. If the items aren’t available yet, many retailers will put you on a waiting list. This assures you of getting the desired gift when it arrives. Also, large discount retailers will often run specials earlier in the season for these new items, to attract more holiday shoppers into their stores. Watch for these special sales early in the shopping season.

Don’t be afraid to ask for unadvertised discounts

Don’t hesitate to ask your retailer if there are any unadvertised discounts, special coupons, or sales going on that week. Many retailers offer special discounts for regular customers as part of their loyalty programs. You might have to sign up for the program, but the discounts usually make it well worth while. Over 55 years of age? Why not ask about a seniors’ discount. Some retailers have an ongoing discount for senior members of the community, or have a certain day of the week where the discount applies.

Save money with “coupons” when shopping online

If you are doing your Christmas gift shopping on the Internet, check to see if there is a box asking for a coupon or promotional code before you click that “Buy” button. This is generally a tip-off that there are extra discounts available for that product. If you find such a box, write down the name of the merchant and the product code. Go to one of the coupon websites, like fatwallets.com or couponcabin.com, and enter the product information. If there is a special promotion for this item, it will give you the discount coupon code. Now you are ready to return to the merchant’s site and make your “discounted” purchase.

Try making money while you do your Christmas shopping

If you do your shopping online, try a website like eBates.com which provides rebates on purchases made through their site. You can generally save anywhere from two to five percent of the purchase price. eBates offers members free shipping promotions and special offers from the more than 800 retail stores they represent. Some of the more familiar names include Target and GAP, so why not get paid for doing your holiday shopping?

Reward yourself for all your holiday shopping efforts

Don’t you deserve a little reward for all the hassle you have incurred on your Christmas gift shopping spree? Of course you do! So why not consider gift items, such as perfume or cosmetics sets, where a special add-on bonus is given as an enticement for you to purchase the item. Often, a special collection of cosmetics or perfumes is provided in a unique carry bag as a bonus. Many people will give away the main item and keep the bonus item for themselves. Go ahead, you deserve it!

These Christmas gift shopping secrets will help you shop smarter and save you money this holiday season. So, why not try using as many of these as you can and see if you don’t notice a little extra Christmas spirit sneaking into holiday shopping experience.

Great Gifts for Children

Cast a weary by on the suggested ages that comes on the packaging when you're shopping for gifts for children. A child who is smarter than other children their age will bore quickly with toys meant for his or her age group. Also, the child learns at a slower rate than other children his or her age could easily become overwhelmed and frustrated with a gift that doesn't really fit them. Consider the child’s mental and emotional levels when purchasing gifts for children.

Of course, a great deal of toys are appropriate for children of all ages including adults. These toys can make exceptional gifts for children because their level of maturity is often something that can be customized in order to be of interest to just about anyone. The Leapfrog reading is a wonderful example of doing this. Buying books that fit on multiple levels, the Leapfrog reading system easily conforms nicely to ages from four to twelve. My daughter has had her Leapfrog for five years now. She actually still reads them, which is really kind of unusual. Any list of potential gifts for children should include an item similar to the Leapfrog reading system.

Board games don't seem to be quite as popular as they once were, but they are still a wonderful way for the family to spend an evening together doing. While shopping for gifts for children, you should look at favorite games from your childhood. Many of them are still on the market today and translate quite well to modern times. The trip down memory lane will appeal to you, and children get excited about board games. My children love Life, Monopoly, and Payday. And those were all surely around when we were kids. They can also learn valuable lessons while playing. Board games are definitely high on my recommended list if you are shopping for gifts for children.

Many children love books, but they do of course have to pay something that the child would naturally be interested. Boys seem to love the slightly crude Captain Underpants series, while girls adore Junie B. Jones. Books most definitely have a place on a list when considering gifts for children. And remember, they can even be passed down to their kids someday. You can even purchase picture books for the littlest of the little ones. It's great fun to say them some through a book and it makes them feel just like grown-ups. And we all know kids like that.

Movies are always a smash hit when looking for gifts for children. Harry Potter videos are all the rage for the slightly older crowd. Pixar films appeal to both children and adults. And of course there are always they show's in earlier decades that suddenly come back into vogue. Most children love watching Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, and I admit seeing Lawrence Fishburne as Cowboy Curtis makes me laugh. It's another nice trip down memory lane for us old folks. Pee-Wee’s Playhouse is the most requested quiet-time video from my collection. The kids can't get enough of that wacky guy.

Girls of all ages seem to love American Girl dolls and Build-A-Bear dolls. Not much of a surprise there. The girl can choose an age appropriate doll and then choose what the doll or bear will wear. Pretty much a perfect gift for a little girl isn't it? My daughter and her friends all love showing off their own artistically dressed creations. These are absolutely some of the best gifts for children.

Go Discount Shopping Before You Pack

For frequent travelers, it feels like you're always on the road, on your way to the airport, or waiting in line at hotel registration. Most of all, it feels like you're constantly packing and unpacking your luggage. Even those of us who travel less frequently - a trip home to visit our mother and father at the holidays, a quick trip to the mountains to enjoy the great outdoors, and an annual vacation - can find packing and unpacking a hassle. The good news is that, with a little forethought and a bit of discount shopping, traveling can be hassle free.

The first step in organizing your travel is to invest in good luggage. If you're a frequent traveler, quality luggage will hold up well over the course of your journeys. If you're a weekend or vacation traveler, your luggage will last for years and you won't have to worry that the materials will crack or degrade.

The next step for smooth travel is to make a master list. Over the course of a week or two - and long before your departure - think about every item that you might choose to take along on your travels. Include different kinds of clothes (career, dressy, casual, sleepwear), shoes, toiletries, jewelry, perfume, cameras, and anything else that you might need or want while you're away. Then make a similar list for every member of your family who travels. Include toys and books for the kids, magazines for you or your spouse, and anything else they may need while they're away. You might even want to make a master list of instructions to leave for the person who will take care of your pets while you're away. Keep your list on your computer in a word processing file. When it comes time to pack for a trip, you can make a copy of the list and delete anything you know you won't need. What remains is the list of items you'll take with you. When you keep a master list, you don't have to reinvent the proverbial wheel every time you're faced with an empty suitcase.

The final step in combating the challenge of packing and unpacking for a trip is to do some discount shopping. You can approach discount shopping in a number of ways. Frequent travelers find that discount shopping provides them with an opportunity to have a second set of clothes, toiletries, and even perfume that they then keep stored in their luggage. When it's time to hit the road, more than half of their packing is already done. When the come home, the clothes get washed, folded, and placed back in their luggage.

For those who travel less frequently, discount shopping is a means for traveling light. You can buy travel-size toiletries so you don't have to lug around large containers of your favorite products. You can also use discount shopping to stock up on clothes you use everyday, such as undergarments. More than one person has been known to purchase new underwear and socks prior to a trip, then pack their old items that needed to be replaced anyway, and throw them away - during their trip - after they've been worn. This gives them more room in their luggage for the souvenirs and gifts that they pick up on their trip.

How To Choose The Perfect Birthday Gift

In order to choose the right birthday gift, you really need to know the person that will be celebrating. Unless you know that, you're really guessing. Try to get an idea of the kind of things they like and what they do in their everyday lives in order to know what they would probably like as a birthday gift.

Also knowing what they don't like can be a great start. For instance, if they don't have pets at home, then buying something pet related is not going to be a great gift.

Typical Starters Checklist For Creating Birthday Gift Ideas:

Are they married?
Do they have children?
Do they have pets?
What are their hobbies?
What sports do they like?
Are they interested in cars?
Are they interested in other cultures?

Once you know what the person actually likes, you can then start planning what gift they will truly appreciate. If a gift reflects someone's personality, is personalized or both, they will notice ! As long as you are concentrating on the receiver and not 'just' the gift itself, you can't go far wrong.

A good idea is to choose a birthday gift that will enhance one of their hobbies or favourite activities. As an example, if the person likes listening to music, visit a store and find a great cd player or something they don't have, like an ipod shuffle. You can wear these on your jacket - they are ultra light and look like a fashion accessory, yet have the potential to store around 100 of your favourite songs.

Other typical hobbies may include things such as gardening, sports, art and playing a musical instrument such as the guitar. You get the picture! Now start researching so you can come up with that perfect birthday gift.

The Biggest Names in Online Shopping

Online shopping seems to be a favored place to shop among stay-at-home moms, college students, busy professionals, grandparents, and many people from all walks of life. For the person who doesn’t get out much because they either have small children or perhaps due to their age or some kind of illness, shopping online is a choice place to find gifts, clothing, food items, exercise equipment, furniture, art work, and much more.

The biggest names in virtual shopping are some of the biggest names you’ll see in land-based venues too. You can find Walmart, Target, Circuit City, Best Buy, Lowes, American Eagle, Gap, and Old Navy to name just a few. Anything you want to buy offline, you can find online.

Two big names have long since claimed the market online as well. Amazon.com has been a player almost since its debut. However, now days, it seems to be a very dominate force with over three million book titles online and practically everyone clicking their way through the countless pages of books, DVDs, electronics, kitchen supplies, and much more.

eBay is another strong force on the internet. Consumers can buy jewelry, pottery, books, toys, dolls, computers, and much more through this online storefront. Of course, eBay is still growing strong as one of the best places to find a good antique at a bargain with so many people placing their goods online for sale.

The biggest names are what consumers look for when they are shopping online. However, what about the little guy? Can the local guy become a strong player on the internet if they set up a storefront? You bet they can! They can find a market for their goods as well.

The online shopper who wants to find something a little unusual will often look for the small local guy rather than the larger storefronts. If consumers can find someone with a fine seller reputation, they are just as happy to buy from the mom and pop business as the national chain because many of the smaller internet storefronts offer something a little different as well as a good price point in most cases.

Online shopping is one of the easiest ways to shop. If you are a comparison shopper, then you can look at various store names to ensure you are getting the best bargain you can find. While some people have been somewhat skeptical in the past of shopping online, there’s no reason to be now. After all, the bargains have proven to save consumers a lot of money and the quality of the merchandise ordered is comparable to whatever you would buy in the land based stores.

Shopping on the internet allows consumers to find the sizes they need quickly when shopping for clothing or shoes. They find colors they want when they need just the right shade for a perfect blend and they can locate exactly what they want when they need a gift for that someone special. Yes, internet shopping is just what the shopper ordered—a quicker way to buy anytime of the day or night. After all, the online shopping venues are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Home Shopping Money Saver Ideas for Buying Electronics and Other Products

Shopping today has become easier than ever. We can do it from the comfort of our own homes and still find the best bargains. Whether looking for one item or many, home shopping makes the experience comfortable and less stressful.

Home Shopping Benefits

Home shopping gives you a chance to browse and compare prices without the inconvenience of making special trips to the malls and stores. In some areas, this is a major undertaking. City traffic can be just as time-consuming as a trip to town from a rural area.

Look For Bargains

There are some practical ideas to help you find the best money-saving deals. First of all, make a list of gifts to buy and a price that is within your budget. Start shopping early so you'll have time to find the best prices. If you are buying for yourself, home shopping lets you shop at your leisure.

There are unlimited websites to find products that you might be looking for. For the men, find sites that offer electronics, automotive, sports and other hobby interests. Ladies might want to look for lingerie, jewelry, household items, supplies for pets, leather or fur garments. Children would enjoy toys and sports equipment or novelties. You can even shop for the latest DVDs and LCD TVs. There are also sites that offer accessories for electronics that you already have.

Save Money

When you are home shopping, it is important to be sure of the product you are interested in buying. Make sure there is a picture or a detailed description so you will know what you are getting. Look at different online catalogs to compare products.

When home shopping look for coupon sites that offer information on online stores that have special deals and promotions. You might be able to get free shipping or a percentage discount. Some web stores offer free shipping on your second order. It is a good idea to calculate shipping before purchasing anything because that will be part of the expense of the product. Shop around other sites to find the best overall price.

Save All Year Long

By home shopping all year long, you may find specials that will save a significant amount on specific items. Whether the gift is for Christmas, a birthday, or a treat for you, it's worth it to get a good deal at an off-season price. After the holidays is the best time to buy seasonal gifts. Electronics that have been available for a while will often be offered at a discount or clearance price.

Enjoy Shopping

Finding popular products for gifts and for yourself doesn't have to be a dreaded chore. Make home shopping a satisfying adventure and save money on the products you really want.

The Gift Shopping Blues

When it comes to great gift ideas, I have about as much imagination as a hamster. (If they were imaginative, hamsters wouldn't run endlessly in those little wheels). It's odd, really. I'm what you'd call a "natural" when it comes to shopping. I LOVE to shop. Give me an entire day at Filene's Basement and I'm in Heaven.

For the uninitiated, Filene's Basement is one of the most famous bargain basements in the United States. Lurking beneath Filene's Department store in Downtown Boston, "The Basement" is a place where merchandise is continually marked down and competition for the best buys is fierce. There's even a day each Spring when wedding dresses sell so cheaply that scuffles break out in the aisles.

I prefer my shopping nonviolent. But still, the prospect of a great big store full of unexplored "stuff" is more exciting to me than a giant Easter Egg hunt is to the average five year old. I know I'm going to find Easter Eggs (i.e., "hidden treasures"). I just have to uncover their secret little hiding places. That's part of the fun!

I have one small problem, though...

Shopping is only fun if I'm not looking for anything in particular. As soon as there's a "list" involved, it starts to feel like work! Add in the idea that I'm looking for some very special (yet unspecified) item for someone else, and the pressure's really on. If someone says to me, "You must go forth and find something for less than $100 that will make your mother-in-law ecstatically happy", it stops me cold. I become as helpless as a man (Sorry guys!). Gift Shopping. Arrrghh!

"What", I ask myself, "is my Mother-in-Law's version of an Easter Egg ?" Where are all those clever gift ideas when I need them? Where are they ever?

Panic sets in. Procrastination comes next. Pretty soon I've buried the whole thing in my subconscious, hoping it will "just go away". It doesn't, of course. Like school exams and work deadlines, gift-giving occasions keep on coming -- inevitably and way too often. And those great gift ideas remain as elusive as ever.

So what's a person to do?

My answer was always to get a big pot of coffee and pull an all-nighter.

Umm, I mean, I'd wait until the last minute and then shop until the stores closed. Sure, I'd manage to come up with a few decent gift ideas and some passable gifts. But it's no way to live. And I always knew I could have done better.

I knew things had to change. I knew I had to uncover the secrets possessed by the expert gift-givers...

You know the type. They're the people who smugly announce that they've been done with their Holiday shopping for weeks, when you haven't even started yours -- much less given it any serious thought. They're never at a loss for great gift ideas and they can produce the perfect greeting card at a moment's notice. You won't catch them dashing out to the Quickie Mart for wrapping paper or ribbon; and they have an uncanny knack for finding gifts that are clever, original, and appropriate for any and every occasion. Most distressing of all, their gifts are always heartwarmingly thoughtful!

I pondered my situation for a long time (years), and finally I knew what I had to do. My mission was to transform myself into the sort of magician who could produce great gift ideas and fabulous gifts at the drop of a hat. It's been a long and painful journey, but I'm happy to report a measure of success. Finally, I can look a gift-giving occasion straight in the eye and say, "Hah!! You're not so tough!"

My two most formidable weapons are my "gift closet" and my "little black book". The gift closet is stocked with a variety of gift boxes, gift bags, wrapping paper, tissue paper, and colorful ribbons and bows. There are plenty of little gift cards, as well as greeting cards ranging from Holiday themes to Sympathy to New Baby. Additionally, I've amassed quite an assortment of gifts-for-any-occasion. Some are purchased with people in mind and others because I know they'd be perfect for something.

The "little black book" is just what it sounds like, only it's not filled with phone numbers. Instead I jot down brief notes based on what I learn about people. If someone mentions a hobby or collection, it goes in the black book. If they hint at something they're just dying to have, it goes in the book. If I notice a fondness for a certain type of jewelry or style of dress, I'll make a note of it. Sometimes I even ask leading questions, waiting for a moment when the future "giftee" is distracted, and therefore unsuspecting. I might even ply the giftee's friends for information, admitting only that "I'm curious". All of this has turned me into a bit of a detective -- a secret agent, if you will. And it's actually kind of fun.

In fact, I think I've found a whole new kind of Easter Egg hunt. The hidden treasures are now the little pearls of wisdom I pick up by spying on the experts, and the tidbits I gather on "giftees" during my covert operations. Once I've gathered enough "eggs", I'm armed and ready. I know exactly where to go and what to do. So now, when everyone else around me is in a panic over gift ideas for the coming holiday season -- or for tomorrow's office party-- I'm one of the smug ones. It's a wonderful feeling. And it sure beats running in that little wheel.

How To Shop For A High Quality Cigar

Are you shopping for a gift for someone in your company or a business associate? If you have someone on your gift list who is a cigar aficionado you may want to consider buying them a high quality cigar. You don't have to be the world's foremost authority on the subject to be able to choose a good cigar. Below I have compiled a few tips to help you be successful in your search.

Cigars are now more popular than ever before which makes it much easier to find them. Though they used to be considered only for people of influence but now the general public is getting into the act and with the plethora of smoke shops available it is easier than ever to find what you are looking for. Finding high quality Cuban cigars is still tough and will be until the embargo is listed, but that won't stop you from finding a top quality cigar that will please the person you are giving it to.

The first step to finding a high quality stogie is to go to a local smoke shop that specializes in cigars. Stay away from the so-called "drugstore cigars", they maybe cheaper but the reason they are cheaper is because they are filled with inferior fillers, preservatives, and irritants. The product you are seeking should be composed on pure, 100% tobacco only. If you are in doubt or have some questions about the ingredients, ask the clerk or salesperson on duty. In most shops these people are highly experienced and knowledgeable and will be able to provide you with any and all information you may need to make a decision.

Even though you may want to shop online to find better bargains, the local tobacco shop is the place to start because you can smell and touch the products which will help you make a good choice. A tip that will help you here is this, when you squeeze a good quality stogie it will compress just a little. It should also be uniform in shape, firm, and not have sections that are soft or hard. The wrapper should be very tight and not rough at all and should not be dry or discolored. If you see a wrapper that has any of those features you shouldn't buy it. The color of the tobacco inside of the product should be even and this can be inspected by looking at the end of the cigar. There will be some slight color differences but sharp changes in contrast of the tobacco indicate that the product was not rolled correctly which greatly affects the burning and can also put off unwanted odors.

The best choice of length when you are unsure how much the person smokes is to go with the longer cigars. These will have a better taste and are great for novices as well. For people who are regular smokers, buy them one that has a larger diameter which will have the richer flavor that they will like.

How To Find Deals On Toys For Christmas

If you celebrate Christmas, you may think this is the happiest time of the year. If you have kids, you may also think it can be a major headache. Most kids want toys for Christmas, and it is of course, up to you to provide them. Unlike myself, many people are smart enough to buy toys for Christmas at an early date. They take advantage of layaway or mid summer sales to stock up. With my child, what she ‘must have’ changes so often I don’t dare shop in July. That’s a recipe for disaster.

If you don’t mind shopping for toys for Christmas at an early date, you have the advantage of finding great deals, as well as not facing the huge financial blow of having to buy everything at once. If you are a smart shopper, you can save tons of money on toys for Christmas just by biding your time and shopping around. Another great way to find deals on toys for Christmas is to buy online. If you have a website in mind, wait for them to have a special. Some will offer huge discounts in the middle of summer, and others will give you free shipping on orders with a certain minimum purchase. Not only will this help you find the perfect toys for Christmas gifts, it will save you time and money. You can sift through the choices on your computer, and the toys are delivered straight to your door. Easy!

When shopping for toys for Christmas gifts, another great place to look is eBay. You can find deals all year round on eBay, and the selection of toys is unlimited. You will have a better time finding hard to get toys for Christmas by searching eBay early and often. Don’t forget about friends and family when looking for toys for Christmas. Ask them to join you for a trip to outlet malls where you can find some great deals. If they are going and you cannot, ask nicely if they would pick some stuff up for you.

If you are worried about getting popular toys for Christmas, you will want to buy early. The most popular toys sell out quickly and if you are looking for popular toys for Christmas on the 24th of December, you may just be out of luck. No matter when you shop, or how much money you save, remember to teach your child that the holiday is more about just getting toys for Christmas morning. Remind them that others are in need, and the holiday is meant to celebrate more than the jolly man in red. Toys are great, but family and spirituality is more important

How to Unwrapped Yourself From the Multiple Wrappers of Life

Christmas is just around the corner and as usual, many people are busy shopping for Christmas gifts for their families and friends. Are you one of them as well? Do you like the feeling of wrapping gifts before Christmas and unwrapping those gifts you have received during Boxing Day? I guess you would like them.

A story was told that a man while traveling, he noticed an interesting event about gift wrapping. While he was at a departmental store, he saw a lady buying a special kind of fancy soap. The soap comes in three little bars, and was wrapped in transparent paper to make it tight and shiny. It is just like vacuum pack.

The soap sits on a cardboard tray and was wrapped up in a colorful transparent wrapping paper and tied with a beautiful paper ribbon at the top. He thought that this was beautiful enough to be presented as a gift.

Then to his surprised, he got a shock of his life when the sales girl asked the lady customer whether she would want the soap to be gift wrapped. He could not believe his hearing as the original wrapping is already very presentable.

Are you able to see the similarity of this story to your own life? The simple soap, with a simple function, is now being wrapped with so many layers of wrapping papers until the original objective might be forgotten. In actual fact, the one and only function of the soap is to provide cleanliness to you, but by the time it was overly wrapped, the intent of the soap was completely lost in your sight. What a pity? In this case, we are far more concerned and worried on the presentation than its intended function.

In your life, are you also too concerned about packaging that you have lost sight of the fundamental meaning of life? More too often, we are too concerned about our career, home, family, finances, medical, insurances, etc.. All these things are just like wrappers that wrapped over us over and over again.

While what you do everyday is important and essential, you should not lost sight of how to improve yourself as well. Life is not just about wrapping yourself with countless of material possessions, you should also supplements it with love, concern, happiness, motivation, inspiration to balance up.

In order to live a more balanced life, you can start to identify areas that you need improvement, and to seek them out. If you need more social contacts, you can seek out community and care groups to share with each other. If you need motivation or inspiration, you can consider to read self-help material. If you need a break, you do not need to have expensive holidays, spending time with nature around your areas and you can really fell the peace of mind. Take time to ponder and meditate.

Pearl as Perfect Gift to a Career Woman

The corporate world is a competitive field that not only scrutinizes a person’s skills and capacities but also the way a person presents himself or herself as an active part of the economy. This is so much so with a career woman in large companies and business enterprises – dressing up properly can make or break a woman’s success. If your wife or girlfriend is a career woman who wants to appear elegant and confident at work then pearls could probably be a perfect gift for her since pearls are considered the pinnacle of good taste and sophistication.

They say that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but for a career woman, pearls are their wise partners. Wearing garish jewelry such as large diamonds, dazzling gold, or blinding platinum is always considered a no-no in the corporate world because they are often thought as impractical is such a very practical setting. However, wearing no accessory may be considered to plain and boring for such a dynamic atmosphere. As such, a career woman is advised to wear pearl jewelry in the office instead. Pearls are not as flashy as those glittery stones that are only appropriate for the evening but are elegant enough to impose a commanding and sophisticated aura which is needed in the world of business.

Pearls are complex fruits of nature that result from oyster’s subtle, yet effective defense mechanisms. When an irritant implants onto an oyster’s sensitive flesh (whether accidentally as in natural pearls or intentionally as in cultured pearls) the mollusk secrets special coatings known as nacre to make the irritant more tolerable. The end product is a luscious and smooth gem that people refer to as a pearl. The very complex mechanism involved in producing pearls very well reflects the way in which career women works her way to the top of the corporate – subtle yet effective. Thus pearls can be the perfect gift for a career woman.

There are two general options when buying pearls: natural and cultured pearls. Natural pearls are those formed by nature through oysters in the ocean, without the help of humans. These pearls are deemed more valuable as they are quite rare and not readily available. Cultured pearls are those formed by oysters assisted by humans. These pearls undergo the same process as natural pearls but they are more abundant and more controlled. Both natural and cultured pearls are esteemed for their high value and both are thus appropriate as gifts for a career woman.

When buying pearls it is important to scrutinize its quality to ensure that good pearls are brought. To know that a pearl is authentic, you can rub it against your teeth or another pearl – if the pearl feels rough, it is real and if it is smooth, it is made of plastic. Apart from authenticity you have to watch out for other markers of quality for pearls such as shape, size, luster, color, and surface because a pearl may be real but not necessarily beautiful enough as a gift.

Here are important things to look for when buying pearls:

1. Nacre – this is what oysters and mollusks secrete to help them fight irritants. The nacre should be thick enough so that it does not easily peel or chip. Generally, the thicker the nacre, the more expensive the pearl.

2. Surface – the pearl surface should be very clean, having little or no blemishes in the outer layer. Pearls with good surfaces have mirror-like shimmer that makes them a perfect accessory for the career woman.

3. Size – generally, bigger pearls are more valuable than smaller ones. Pearls are measured according to their diameter in millimeters. Even as little as 1 millimeter can make a lot of difference in a pearl’s value.

4. Color – most people think of pearls as having white or creamy color, but there are other pearl colors such as gray, champagne, aqua, green, black, or gold. When choosing pearl colors it is important to consider the wearer’s personality and taste to make sure that it complements them.

5. Shape – perfectly round pearls are usually valued very much than those with oblate or irregular shapes. There are also pearls with novelty shapes such as crosses, Buddha, among many others.

Pearls can be the perfect gift to a career woman. It is elegant and valuable without being gaudy or showy – perfect for a woman who wants to present herself with sophistication and boldness in the corporate world.

Holiday Gift Buying Rules of the Road

For some of us, we were born to shop and we have a true knack for always buying the right gift. Then there are the rest of us. Everyone has those people on the list who are just 'impossible.' But are they really? First of all you have to have a list. The biggest way to overspend is to not have a list of recipients and a budget before you hit the pavement. To get you thinking about gift ideas, here are a few rules of the road for that special someone in your life.

For Her:

  1. Do not buy her something practical unless she has specifically asked for it. However, if she did, make sure you know exactly what she wants. A blender is not a blender is not a blender.
  2. Clothing: You can go sooo wrong with this. Be careful. Know her size and know her style.
  3. Gift Certificates: While this is an easy fix to a big problem, it can scream I don't know what else to buy you.
    • Do not buy a gift certificate to the mall or department store.
    • Use the same philosophy with gift certificates as with gifts. Know the person's style. If she loves DIY, then try a gift certificate for lessons (pottery class, art lessons, even DIY home improvement if she is in to that). If she needs to relax and unwind, gift certificates to a spa are a great idea.
    • Now, you have the gift certificate and you put a lot of thought into so don't blow it on the packaging. A plain white or store envelope is not the way to go. Package it with a product from the store (i.e. aromatherapy if doing the spa idea) or her favorite wine, chocolates, etc.
Remember that just because it is a gift certificate, does not mean it should not be treated like any other gift.
  4. And here is the big one: Buy what she likes not what you like!

For Him:

  1. Practical works for men but only if it is something he wants, not something you think he should have to do a chore on the "to do" list.
  2. Clothing: Same rule applies for men as for women. Know his size and his style. Now some of you are reading this and saying but I don't like what he wears. This is not the time to reform him. If you don't like what he wears then don't buy him clothing for the holidays OR buy him a gift certificate for a personal shopper that he can use in any manner he wants.
  3. Gift Certificates: For men, you need to be specific. Many women don't mind shopping but most men do. Gift certificates to internet vendors that he frequents are good. Mall gift certificates are not. And again, follow the simple rules for packaging the gift certificate. Don't use the plain white or store envelope.
  4. And now the big one: Sports/Hobby equipment or Electronics. If you are going to buy your guy something to accentuate his hobbies or activities then make sure that is what it actually does. If he is a sports enthusiast then he most likely has brands or styles of equipment that he prefers. Talk to his sports buddies or check out sports experts online before buying him something he doesn't want or need. Use the same philosophy when buying electronics. Research what is best for his needs and buy the best you can afford in your price range. If you know he wants a specific product and it is out of your budget, do not buy second best. Choose another idea.

For the one who has it all: The BusyB Herself will tell you that you have to work pretty hard to find her someone who truly has it all and for whom she can't find a creative gift. However, if you have someone who does not need nor want, try something different. There are a multitude of charitable organizations out there who do want and need. Think about his/her passions. For example: if he/she is really into animals then make a donation to the local shelter on his/her behalf and then package it with the donation letter as well as something from the organization or a magazine/book on the subject.

Happy Shopping! Remember, if you can't do it, don't want to do it or don't think you are going to get it right, call in a personal shopper.

Romantic Gifts For Her

Choosing a romantic gift for a woman is a pleasure in itself. A significant part of the wonderful experience of being in love involves the thoughts invested in choosing a gift that will make “her” feel loved, special and wanted. It is obviously very important to hit upon a gift idea that will delight her. A successful romantic gift for a woman is always based upon a combination of the personality of the lady and how well her lover “knows” her. Focusing on these two aspects will ensure that you never go wrong while selecting a gift for that special person.

Romantic gifts are always related to a woman’s emotions. Some gifts will never go out of fashion. For instance, a bouquet of roses is a traditional method of conveying feelings of romance to a lover. While red roses are great for any occasion, picking roses of your partner’s favorite color creates an even sweeter surprise. Chocolates are a perfect gift for a girl with a sweet tooth. With so many choices in chocolate, from white to milk to dark to filled ones, all you need to know is your partner’s preference.

Quality time, acts of kindness and giving gifts are some of the memories you can create in your relationship. These convey the unspoken essence of your emotions, loud and clear. It is important to select romantic gifts that are truly one-of-a-kind. Personalizing a gift with a monogram or inscription can help make the gift even more special.

In our times, the process of choosing a romantic gift has been made very easy owing to the wide range of gift stores available in every town. There are also many Internet-based gift sites that offer a range of gifts and price to match every personality type and budget. Many cities in the US have gift service that will help you zero in on a gift idea that will suit your partner’s personality. For a service fee, many of these establishments also take care of planning the entire mood and ambience when the gift is to be handed over. It is important to remember that these agencies are only a support service; they cannot and should not be a substitute for your own romantic feelings.

Gifts For Her

Finding the right gift for your significant other, regardless of the occasion, could become a very difficult and stressful experience. It is not the same as buying a gift for a family member or a friend. Choosing the right gift will show your affection towards her, and how much you care about her. The seriousness and the type of the relationship will dictate what the meaning of the gift as well.

What would the right gift be for a relationship that is new? In this situation, when you have only gone out a few times, and the commitment level is low, buying the right gift is very tricky. Buying the wrong gift can seriously change the status of the relationship. It can either turn it into a very serious full-fledged commitment, or, at the opposite extreme, a break up. The safe, acceptable gift in this early stage of the relationship is the usual card and flowers.

Women, however, appreciate it when a man spends time picking out the right gift for her. So it is very important to listen carefully to what she says. Pay attention to any hints she might drop, and then surprise her with something you know she will love.

The present a married man will give to his wife would be very different. The most common gift married men give their wives is jewelry. This gift will please any woman, married or not. The objective of a married man is not necessarily to show his commitment level to the woman. More often, the gifts he gives are more likely geared toward the occasion and to set the mood for the evening.

There is no set standard for picking the perfect gift for the woman in your life. It is different for every woman. The most important thing a man can do is to know his woman and find out what she enjoys. Find out what she appreciates the most and use that to think up of the perfect gift.

Jewelry As A Fathers Day Gift

It is widely known that many men enjoy fine jewelry. So, why not present Dad with a gift of jewelry this Father’s Day.

Jewelry gifts that you might consider for that special Father in your life could include a gold or silver watch, a handsome sterling silver or 14kt gold chain or masculine link bracelet. With a chain you might include a manly pendant with a nautical or sports theme.

As for rings, there are many rugged designs available in 14kt gold or sterling silver with stones like turquoise, onyx, malachite and lapis. Also, many men are fond of masculine settings of small diamonds and other gemstones.

Celtic jewelry designs, such as Celtic crosses, Celtic knots, etc… are great choices for Dad on Father’s Day.

If your Dad has a pierced ear maybe he would appreciate a small stud earring; the choices here are endless.

Remember this, men tend to avoid interchanging jewelry in the way that many women do. With this in mind, avoid costume jewelry and focus on durable quality pieces that Dad can wear day in and day out.

The following are some tips for buying jewelry for Dad on Father’s Day. He will be proud of you for being a smart jewelry consumer and for saving some money, too.

Here are some helpful guidelines to keep in mind when you are shopping for a jewelry gift to celebrate the next chapter of your special Father’s life.

1. There’s a big difference between 14 karat gold and gold-plated jewelry. Fourteen karat (14K) jewelry contains 14 parts of gold, mixed in throughout with 10 parts of base metal. Gold-plated describes jewelry with a layer of at least 10K gold bonded to a base metal. Gold plating eventually wears away, depending on how often the item is worn and how thick the plating is.

2. If you’re buying a watch, determine whether you want one that runs on a battery or one that must be wound daily. Ask if a warranty or guarantee is included, how long it lasts, and what parts and repair problems it covers. Also ask how and where you can get the watch serviced and repaired.

3. Know the difference between laboratory-created gemstones and naturally mined stones. Stones created in the lab are visually identical to stones mined from the earth. The big difference is in the cost: laboratory-created stones are less expensive then naturally mined stones. But because they look much like stones mined from the earth, they must be identified as lab-created. If you want a naturally mined stone, ask if it has been treated. Gemstone treatments– such as heating, dyeing or bleaching– can improve a stone’s appearance or durability. Some treatments are permanent; some may create special care requirements. Treatments also may affect the stone’s value.

4. When you’re buying a diamond, consider four criteria: cut, color, clarity and weight, usually stated as carats. Each factor affects the price. Color is sometimes “graded” on a scale. However, scales are not uniform: a “D” may be the best color for one scale, but not for another. Make sure you know how a particular scale and grade represent the color of the diamond you’re considering. A diamond can be described as “flawless” only if it has no visible surface cracks or other imperfections when viewed under 10-power magnification by a skilled diamond grader.

When shopping for Father’s Day jewelry online, apply these tips.

1. Shop with companies you know or do some homework before buying to make sure a company is legitimate before doing business with it.

2. Take advantage of information and referrals from an Internet company you have come to trust.

3. Get the details about the product, as well as the merchant's refund and return policies, before you buy.

4. Look for an address to write to or a phone number to call if you have a question, a problem or need help.

Dog Clothes make Great Gifts

When it comes to the art of giving, a gift of clothes is fraught with peril. We all have stories to tell, and if you don't, you will. Just give it time.

Mine started early. My grandmother, having survived the Depression, knew how to stretch a dollar. Clothes for her grandkids were always purchased 3 or 4 sizes too big so we could "grow into them". And she passed this charming trait on to my mother. So, we endured our baggy clothes, with the sleeves and pant legs rolled up, until we were finally big enough to wear them with dignity. By which time they were ready for donation.

Then there's my husband. Heaven forbid I should try to give the man a Polo shirt with an uneven hemline. Most Polos are made longer in the back to help them stay "tucked", but hubby goes un-tucked -- always. He rejects any polo that breaks the rule, no matter how subtly. For an otherwise easy-going guy, his behavior is almost perverse.

If you must give clothes this season, there's one giftee on your list who's sure to look great in any outfit you buy him. He'll wear your gift with pride and appreciation, head held high and tail wagging.

That's right, your dog. Or your best friend's dog. It's so easy you'll wonder why you didn't think of it before.

Dogs love any kind of attention you lavish on them. So, Spike will wear his outfit - whether it's cute or ridiculous - as soon as he sees how happy it makes his owner. Spot will eat up all that extra attention he gets from strangers. And Fifi might even want to Vogue for the camera.

Clothes shopping for dogs is a lot like clothes shopping for babies. Unless you're going for practicality, cuteness is what counts. And that's easy to accomplish, given that any dog wearing clothes looks pretty darned cute.

Choices in dog clothes range from winter sweaters to football jerseys and summer tees. You can get a set of flannel PJ's for bedtime or a terry robe for after bath. There's even an entire line of Harley clothes for dogs, complete with leather cap and studded collar. Dog costumes made for parties and holidays are just too cute for words.

If you really want your gift to be a hit with admirers, accessorize. Try a designer dog collar and maybe a cool pair of sunglasses--they make them just for dogs. And I recently heard that leg warmers are making a come back.

Got a mischievous sense of humor? Making the baby look silly might be a no-no, but it's good clean fun when it comes to dressing up a dog. There are some really creative doggie costume out there that are good for a chuckle or two.

There's really only a couple of rules you'll need to keep in mind when shopping for dog clothes: One is that if the dog in question is an avid chewer, you should avoid buying him anything tempting. Shiny buttons, fringe, and feathers are examples that come to mind. An object that can easily be chewed off and swallowed is a choking hazard and can get stuck in the dog's digestive tract.

The other rule is that any dog, no matter how tolerant, will be more comfortable wearing clothes that fit. Proper fit typically requires measuring from the dog's collar to the base of her tail for length. Most garment's girth can be adjusted with velcro tabs, but could still be an issue with a barrel-chested breed such as a bulldog. Measurements are typically in inches.

Remember that a dog will never "diet down" into an outfit that's too small , or -- unless you're shopping for a puppy or a pregnant female -- "grow into" an item that's too big. (Sorry, Grandma.)

Oh, and one more thing--if you're handy with a sewing machine, you can make your own dog clothes creations. Just don't forget to include an opening for the dog to relieve himself. Don't laugh, it happens a lot!

Now, if you're shopping for your own dog, you're all set. But if you're buying clothes for someone else's dog, I've got a few more tips for you.

Surveys conducted on the subject of gift preferences of men and women have shown that men prefer gifts that are more playful or practical. So, if the dog's owner is male this might translate into a doggie Harley jacket, a funny costume, or a reflective hunting vest (more on practical clothing in another article!).

Women, on the other hand, prefer gifts that are beautiful, memorable, and personal. It shouldn't be hard to find an item of clothing for a woman's dog that's either beautiful or memorable or both, and it will of course be personal!

Exception: if the woman is someone you don't know well. The more distant the relationship between giver and receiver, the riskier it is to give a personal gift. So, be they man or woman, if you don't know the dog owner very well, you probably shouldn't be buying dog clothes for their pet.

I hope you'll have fun picking out something nice for the canine on your shopping list. If you get a chance, send me a photo!

How To Purchase Diamond As A Gift

Gift the women of your life a dazzling white diamond and see the gleam on her face. Worth it. Isn't it? A diamond is rightly said a woman's best friend. They are the most immortal thing present on the earth. Thus they become an ideal gift especially if you are celebrating a marked occasion.

Diamonds are discovered to be the most hardest substance in nature. It is only a diamond that can cut another diamond. But choosing a good piece for the diamond of your life is not easy. There are certain aspects that you should keep in mind before purchasing and gifting a diamond. A diamond is generally measured through the 3-C formula. These three Cs are Clarity and Color, Cut and Carat. The price of a diamond varies depending on the above mentioned factors.

Let us discuss these 3Cs in detail to give you the complete information:

1. Clarity and Color: The most expensive diamonds are colorless stones. But there still exist some amounts of color in almost all the diamonds, which is not visible through the naked eye. There are six groups in total under which they are graded. They are the D group that carries the most best type of diamonds and are rarely available. In the E category of diamonds only a small trace of color can be seen. The other categories are F, G-H, which possess a less of color, I-J, K-J is the least expensive of all the diamonds as they have a hazy look on it.

2. Cut: In a diamond, a cut is a very important thing as it is responsible for its brilliance. Diamonds are available in raw form, they are cut accurately and then polished to bring them in a state of brilliance. Cutting of diamonds is a science. Only people equipped with this technology can do it. The value of a diamond is brought out in its cuts. Proper cut manifolds the value of a diamond whereas a very brilliant diamond can also be doomed with a bad cut.

Cutting can be performed with deep, shallow or with perfect length. These different types of cuts have significance attached to it. In a deep cut the light escapes from all the sides. Because of this the diamond looks dull and darker. And if the cut is too shallow the light is reflected generally in the lower parts of the diamond, making it to loose its luster.

3. Carat: While buying a diamond this is the most important thing that you should keep in mind. A carat in simple terms is the mass of a diamond. One carat can be comparable to 200 milligrams. The biggest diamond carries a carat size of 5 and the smallest of of 0.25.

Thus gifting a diamond jewelery is beyond the comparison of any other gift. You can gift diamonds in the form of various jeweleries like neck pieces, rings, bangles, bracelets, ear rings. Diamonds can be clubbed together or can be gifted as a solitaire, depending on your budget.

Buying Gemstones Without Being Ripped Off

Buying gemstone jewelry can be fun, exciting and confusing. Whether you’re considering a gift of gemstone jewelry for someone special or as a treat for yourself, take some time to learn the terms used in the industry. Here’s some information to help you get the best quality gemstone jewelry for your money, whether you’re shopping in a traditional brick and mortar store or online.

Gemstones
Natural gemstones are found in nature. Laboratory-created stones, as the name implies, are made in a laboratory. These stones, which also are referred to as laboratory-grown, {name of manufacturer} - created, or synthetic, have essentially the same chemical, physical and visual properties as natural gemstones. Laboratory-created stones do not have the rarity of naturally colored stones and they are less expensive than naturally mined stones. By contrast, imitation stones look like natural stones in appearance only, and may be glass, plastic, or less costly stones. Laboratory-created and imitation stones should be clearly identified as such.

Gemstones may be measured by weight, size, or both. The basic unit for weighing gemstones is the carat, which is equal to one-fifth 91/5th) of a gram. Carats are divided into 100 units, called points. For example, a half-carat gemstone would weigh .50 carats or 50 points. When gemstones are measured by dimensions, the size is expressed in millimeters (for example, 7x5 millimeters).

Gemstone treatments or enhancements refer to the way some gems are treated to improve their appearance or durability, or even change their color. Many gemstones are treated in some way. The effects of some treatments may lessen or change over time and some treated stones may require special care. Some enhancements also affect the value of a stone, when measured against a comparable untreated stone.

Jewelers should tell you whether the gemstone you’re considering has been treated when: the treatment is not permanent; the treated stone requires special care; or the treatment significantly affects the value of the gemstone.

Some common treatments that you may be told about and their effects include:

• Heating can lighten, darken or change the color of some gems, or improve a gemstone’s clarity.

• Irradiation can add more color to colored diamonds, certain other gemstones and pearls.

• Impregnating some gems with colorless oils, wax or resins makes a variety of imperfections less visible and can improve the gemstones’ clarity and appearance.

• Fracture filling hides cracks or fractures in gems by injecting colorless plastic or glass into the cracks and improves the gemstones’ appearance and durability.

• Diffusion treatment adds color to the surface of colorless gems; the center of the stone remains colorless.

• Dyeing adds color and improves color uniformity in some gemstones and pearls.

• Bleaching lightens and whitens some gems, including jade and pearls.

Shopping On Line Dos And Donts

At Home - Be Sure, Be Secure this Festive Season

Many of us choose to use the Internet for purchasing gifts, particularly at this time of year so it is important to remember the need for vigilance.

Being on guard online helps you protect your information, your computer, yourself and your family. There are a few simple guidelines that will help make shopping online more secure.

Do:

  • ensure that you know who you are dealing with. Anyone can set up shop online under almost any name. Confirm the online seller’s physical address and phone number in case you have questions or problems;
  • ensure that you know exactly what you are buying. Read the seller’s description of the product closely, especially the fine print. Words like "refurbished," "vintage," or "remainder" may indicate that the product is damaged or obsolete. High-value-label items with "too good to be true" prices are indeed probably too good to be true – i.e. counterfeits;
  • be aware of what it will cost. Check out websites that offer similar goods and then compare prices;
  • pay by credit or charge card. Do not send cash under any circumstances.
Don't:

  • email your financial information - email is not a secure method of transmitting sensitive personal information.
Awareness and Protection are Key

Everyone should be aware of the risks and as a minimum install the following three fundamental protections to help guard against online threats:

  • anti-virus software;
  • spyware protection;
  • a firewall.
Above all do not put yourself at risk and ensure that you are not a victim this festive season.

Jewelry As A Graduation Gift Make It A Memorable One

Jewelry makes a memorable gift to commemorate one of Life’s Great Milestones. Graduation represents a unique, personal accomplishment earned through hard work and determination.

Here are some helpful guidelines to keep in mind when you are shopping for a jewelry gift to celebrate the next chapter of your special graduates life.

4. Ask whether pearls are imitation or real. Real pearls are made by oysters or other mollusks; imitation pearls are man-made. Cultured pearls are made by mollusks with human intervention; and irritant introduced into their shells causes a pearl to grow. Real pearls that are not cultured are fairly rare and expensive. The cost depends on the size, usually stated in millimeters, and the coating or “nacre” on a real pearl, which gives it its iridescence.

5. When you’re buying a diamond, consider four criteria: cut, color, clarity and weight, usually stated as carats. Each factor affects the price. Color is sometimes “graded” on a scale. However, scales are not uniform: a “D” may be the best color for one scale, but not for another. Shopping for Cameras and Web Design Lessons

Out of curiosity, I look around and compare prices for a specific digital camera. The lowest one I could find without shopping costs included is from Stargate Photo. The lowest price I’ve found with shipping is $350. I add the camera to the cart (as I can’t find shipping costs after 10 minutes of searching), and it asks me to enter my login ID or Sign up.

Two problems. First, it doesn’t give me a way to check out without registering. Many carts are abandoned because of this. Second, on the sign up page (the first page you see after clicking sign up), it asks for credit card information and the submit button says, “Submit order.” Hey, I never got a shipping cost!

On the shopping cart page, there is a drop down for shipping with four choices. The first one displays, “UPS-Ground 6%.” I assume this means shipping is 6% of the subtotal of the products you buy. But it could easily be something else. If I am right, the form shouldn’t make the customer figure out the shipping cost.

I tried in both Firefox and Internet Explorer. No difference except the formatting is better in IE. Even if I wanted to buy a camera, I don’t think I would buy it from this business because it has no reputation or reviews yet.

Online Shopping 10 Tips For Safe Online Shopping

Have you ever bought a product or service from the internet?

Yes? Me too. You’re not alone…

Some of the reasons why most people are shopping online are: they can buy anything at anytime because Internet shopping is available 24 hours, all the time.

You can shop from the convenience of your home. You can avoid traffic and crowding at the malls.

Online shopping is one of the best ways to locate hard-to-find items not available in your local stores.

Whatever you buy can be delivered by mail to your house.

Most online stores and companies provide excellent values and discount prices because they do not have to pay the overhead of owning a physical business that will cost them insurance, employee pay, taxes and more.

VeriSign, Inc. says that online sales recorded during the prime holidays shopping season was about $2.2 billion dollars.

According to a study by Forrester Research Company, by 2010, online sales will reach $331 billion dollars.

More consumers are shopping online today than a year ago. The range of products they buy are many: software, hardware, electronics, digital products, music, toys, e-books, books, programs, DVD, flowers, pets, jewelry, clothes, air tickets, insurance, cars, prescription drugs, comic books, games, gifts and more.

They are flocking to buy from online bookstores, software stores, online computer stores, target stores, pet stores, liquor stores, drug stores, music stores, furniture stores, fabric stores, the Disney store, outlet stores, surplus stores, discount stores, thrift stores, gift stores, candy stores, lingerie stores, sports stores, video stores, sex stores, department stores, game stores, clothing stores and others.

Be a smart and savvy online shopper. Shop wisely and safely.

Here are a few tips to help you do your online shopping safely.

(1) Shop at the websites of companies that you know and are popular offline.

If you’re not sure of the company, request their catalog or brochure first.

Be sure they have a physical address and phone, as well as an e-mail address. Call them and speak to a human being first.

(2) Keep a record of all your purchases.

Most people are by nature disorganized and unable to keep records. Learn to keep records of all your online purchases. This will help you keep track of your spending and shopping.

Print all receipts or save them on your computer in a folder named “receipts”.

This will help you locate orders that you placed but were never delivered.

The more organized you are the less negative online shopping experience you’ll have.

(3) Keep all your important personal information safe.

Don’t give them to strangers who may call you over the phone or request them by e-mail.

Personal information includes: your address, e-mail address, phone number, social security number, drivers license, age, information about your family.

Don’t give them to any stranger and, also, teach your children not to do so.

(4) Keep your passwords private.

When creating a password, avoid using phone numbers, birth dates or social security numbers.

Be creative. Use a password that is not easy for others to guess, and yet not easy for you to forget.

Change your passwords often. Use phrases to help you remember them.

Don’t disclose passwords to anyone.

(5) Use a credit (but never debit) card to make your payment.

Be sure to keep all credit card payment receipts. Check your credit card account statements to be able to spot any unauthorized charges.

When you buy certain goods and services from some companies, sometimes they will keep billing you thereafter. So scrutinize your statements. If you see a charge you’re not sure of, call the billing merchant and check it out.

Keep your credit cards secure.

Avoid making a payment using your credit card on a public computer.

Report any lost credit cards immediately and have them cancelled. Don’t give anyone that you don’t know your credit card number.

(6) Read the return policy before placing an order.

Be sure that you read and understand the return policy and warranty.

(7) Read and understand the company’s privacy statement (or policy).

A privacy statement tells you how and why a business is collecting your information, and how that information may be used. You may find the company’s privacy statement (or policy) at the very bottom of the home page or inside their "Terms & Conditions" or "Terms of Service" (TOS).

(8) Use a secure browser and server.

Be sure whatever browser you’re using complies with the industry’s security standards, such as secure sockets layer (SSL).

This security protocol scrambles or encrypts the personal information you send over the Internet to ensure your transaction is secured.

How do you know if the server is secure where you’re making a payment?

If a Web site is using secure technology, its Web address begins with https and a tiny locked padlock appears at the bottom right corner of the screen.

(9) Check out a few stores and compare prices before buying. Look for hidden costs such as shipping and handling.

(10) Use Yahoo Search Engine for all your searches.

Yahoo continues to be, not only the largest online company, but also, the best Search Engine.

Unlike the other popular Search engine, which keeps companies in a sandbox for many months and refuses to give them rankings for many months, Yahoo is pro business and gives immediate rankings to companies and business.

Their search result is also excellent. That may be one reason why 60% of people online (including me) love Yahoo.

Also, they have the most reliable and the best hosting service in the world.

For these reasons, I strongly recommend you use Yahoo to do all your searches.

Happy and safe online shopping.
